Proposal Form

This is what I propose to create for my A2 Media Coursework.

I have decided to create a magazine that is of a lifestyle genre and I have decided on this genre because, it means that I have a broad range of options and ideas as to what I could feature in my magazine. This is because, there are so many popular tourist destinations in the North East, which means that there is so much that I can feature in my magazine.

The image above, is a similar product to the magazine that I intend to create. This product is similar to the one I intend to create because, they are both lifestyle magazines that specialize in life in the North.

In order to make my magazine as professional as possible, I am going to use typical magazine conventions and content that is appropriate and that relates to a lifestyle magazine. I am going to use conventions such as a main image, skylines, essential information and a cover line. I am going to ensure that the image is of a high quality so that it looks incredibly professional. As for the other features, I propose to use a broader range of fonts (i.e. dafont) with a clear colour scheme.

Above, is a link to a moodboard that I created on Pinterest. The reason I created a moodboard was so that I would have a springboard of ideas for the magazine that I am going to be developing when I start my second year at college.

This time around, I am going to be developing a magazine that is related to the North East. I have decided to develop a magazine of a lifestyle genre because, there are so many tourist destinations in the North East that are massively popular including Durham Cathedral, Newcastle Upon Tyne, South Shields beach, the Metro Centre and Tynemouth.

The moodboard that I have created consists of 15 images of various tourist destinations in the North East. This moodboard is going to be very useful to me because, it will provide me with a range of options as to what photos I will eventually use in my final magazine draft.

Reflection on AS Coursework

This is the front cover I completed as part of my AS Media coursework. I am now going to analyze aspects of my front cover, in order to consider on what I am going to improve upon.
I think that the masthead could be improved because, it doesn't look very professional. It looks like it has been developed for a PowerPoint presentation rather than for a magazine. Having said that, though, I do believe that I have used the appropriate colours for my masthead because, other magazines of a similar genre (i.e. NME and Q) use the colour red. One major flaw of my masthead is the fact that the barcode is located within the masthead. At the time, it seemed like an appropriate idea but looking back, it wasn't the greatest idea. To improve the quality of my masthead, I am going to experiment with different fonts that would make my mashed look more professional. I plan to do this by using dafont.
However, one aspect that I am happy with is the main cover line. This is because, I believe that it would immediately catch the eye of the target audience because, it stands out. It is different and eye catching, as well as looking incredibly professional. This is will be one of the only conventions that I am going to keep the same.
However, another aspect that I am going to slightly improve upon is the skyline. I am going to decrease the font size to enable more focus on the main image and the other cover lines.
In relation to the other cover lines, I am happy with them. I believe that I have included enough supporting articles to make it the worth of the target audience's money spent on the magazine.

The only aspect of the contents page that I am unhappy with is the image. I believe that the image looks unprofessional because, of the lighting. It is too bright and it doesn't make the image very credible for the magazine. In order to improve the quality of the image, I might have to take the photo again with, perhaps, a camera that is provided by the college rather than my home camera.

I am happy with the rest of my contents page because, I have stuck with a colour scheme that is used by other magazines of a similar genre and I believe that the colours blend in well with the theme of my magazine. I am also happy with the fact that I have included some form of interactivity (the telephone number and the website). However, I do need to include more up to date forms of interactivity including apps and links to Facebook and Twitter.

Out of the three parts of my AS coursework, the double page spread is the aspect I am most happy with. Although there is always room for improvement, I don't think that there are many improvements that need to be made to my double page spread because, I believe that I have used the appropriate colours that can be associated with similar magazines and I also believe that my image looks very professional because, I had worn the appropriate clothing. However, one aspect that I could improve upon is the layout. To improve the layout, I could rearrange the text so that it is more organized, therefore making it look more professional.
